Arizona Drought Contingency Plan
Leaders in Arizona are working hard to plan for the state’s water future. While negotiations are still underway for an Arizona Drought Contingency Plan, we are playing a key role to ensure that Arizona business leaders remain informed and engaged in the planning processes. Importantly, we are working to ensure that businesses have a seat at the table to provide input and guide development of the plan. Because business leaders recognize that drought and Colorado River water shortage present significant economic issues for Arizona and business operations, we have taken a lead role on this issue, serving as an advocate for the business community at all stakeholder meetings and delivering critical information to support both policy makers and AZ business leaders. For more on the plan read this Arizona Republic story.
Regional AZ Policy Work
The BWS team also plays a role in advocating for smaller, more regionally focused river restoration projects. In Arizona and beyond, these smaller-scale projects, such as the successful Verde River Exchange Program, are important models of success for public-private and community partnerships that focus on river-restoration on a very tangible scale. These projects are clear examples of how important rivers and streams are to our regional and statewide economic vitality. We will continue to bring projects like the Verde River Exchange Program to the attention of policy leaders and businesses to promote economically viable solutions to water management problems.
