The headwaters of the Middle Fork Cosumnes River lie in Foster Meadow, situated in the Sierra Nevadas. The natural hydrology of this small and diverse meadow ecosystem has been altered by over 100 years of channel modifications, decreasing water quality and limiting wildlife habitat. This project reintroduced native soils and meadow plants, and improved habitat diversity at varying water depths, as well as removed barriers to habitat connectivity for seamless transition from meadow to the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes. The results are improved water quality and timing of flows, and enhance aquatic and terrestrial habitats onsite and downstream.
