Irrigation Efficiency in the Seine River Watershed

The Seine River originates in the Burgundy wine region in northeastern France. It meanders through Paris and down to the Normandy coast where it empties into the English Channel. It is the most important river in northern France in terms of agricultural use. In partnership with xFarm, this project aims to reduce agricultural stress in the Seine watershed by helping farmers use an decision support system (DSS) to manage water resources on farms. The system promotes greater efficiency in irrigation interventions by comparing known crop needs with environmental data collected from field sensors that characterize soil water status. The result is increased water use efficiency, improved crop product quality, and water resource savings.
