The Cody Meadow Restoration Project encompasses 16 acres of meadow in the headwaters of Cody Creek. It is a tributary to Strawberry Creek and South Fork American River on lands administered by the USDA – Forest Service, Placerville Ranger District, El Dorado National Forest. Stakeholders identified an opportunity to convert existing motorized roads in the basin to foot and equestrian trails to bolster the proposed meadow restoration effects.

The Placerville Ranger District, El Dorado National Forest and project stakeholders are seeking to restore the natural hydrologic functions of Cody Meadow to promote water quality, increased flows and improved habitats onsite and downstream. Once the project is near completion, native vegetation will be transplanted to areas surrounding the channel.

The project benefits will be the reversal of the effects of 100 years of natural events and land use that have resulted in channel degradation and loss of floodplain connection.
