Rio Grande Habitat Restoration Volunteer Project
The project will take place in New Mexico’s Middle Rio Grande Basin. The Project will be implemented by Audubon New Mexico (Audubon), who seeks to engage the community in protecting and restoring habitat and flows along the Rio Grande. The project will include education and hands-on engagement through a series of habitat restoration opportunities.
Audubon will partner with local organizations to host two community habitat restoration programs each year that serve 30-60 individuals on site. Additional digital communications will engage thousands more. Participants will engage in field-based learning activities and plant native plants, which will restore riparian and floodplain habitat. In addition, activities will include a professional development component to support a pathway for the next generation of conservation leaders.
The overall goal of these events are to connect the community to a living Rio Grande and how the river is managed, help participants understand their role in conservation, and provide meaningful opportunities to stay engaged in future restoration efforts.
