Jefferson, Jordan, and Jayfield Parks Habitat Restoration

The Jefferson, Jordan, and Jayfield Parks Habitat Restoration Project site is located on Mimico Creek within the Mimico Creek subwatershed in the City of Brampton. Historically, tributaries of the Mimico Creek subwatershed meandered through agricultural fields.

The Mimico Creek Watershed has experienced high levels of urbanization over the past 25 years which has led to the channelization of streams, the draining of wetlands, the installation of flood control structures, the removal of extensive areas of forest and riparian vegetation, and the loss wildlife.

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and its partners are leading wetland restoration efforts in the area. The wetlands will help capture, filter, and detain stormwater to improve habitat, water quality, and stormwater runoff issues in the Jefferson, Jordan, and Jayfield Parks area and downstream.
