Crystal Basin Forest Restoration

The Great Basin Institute, along with several other project partners, have been working to restore 7,300 acres of the Eldorado National Forest in northeastern California as part of the Crystal Basin Ecological Restoration Project. P&G is supporting the restoration of 200 acres of forestland at high risk for fire. The project will help to reduce the risk of catastrophic fires by reducing the number of shrubs and small trees, which serve as fuel and intensify the impact of forest fires. When forests are managed effectively for fire the water systems around them also benefit.

“The innovative forest restoration occurring at Crystal Basin demonstrates the power of science-based policy and effective collaborative solutions for improving watershed health and resilience”  – Jerry Keir, Executive Director, Great Basin Institute
